BREAKING: Senate Confirms Emefiele For Second Term As CBN Governor
First CBN Governor In A Democracy To Get Second Term
The Senate on Thursday morning confirmed the nomination of Mr. Godwin Emefiele as governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN for a second term. The confirmation was upon his nomination by President Muhammadu Buhari of Emefiele for a second term as governor.
Mr. Emefiele could become the second person in the bank’s history to serve a second term after Alhaji Abdulkadir Ahmed who served in the Ibrahim Babangida administration from 1992 to 1993.
He is also the first CBN governor in a democratic setting to get a second term.
Emefiele’s confirmation by the Senate was upon the submission of the report of the Senate Committee on Banking which screened him on Wednesday. The committee presented its report to the Senate on Thursday morning and recommended his confirmation.
His confirmation was immediately approved by the Senate in plenary.
