Zamfara: Governor Apologises To APC

The outgoing governor of Zamfara State Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari has tendered an unreserved apology to the All Progressives Congress, APC over the loss of the state to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

A sober Yari spoke when he addressed stakeholders of the party at a meeting in Government House, Gusau on Saturday. The meeting followed the formal declaration of the PDP’s Bello Matwalle as the governor-elect in conformity with the Supreme Court judgment that declared votes cast for the APC in the last election as wasted.

Among party chieftains present at the meeting was the APC governorship candidate, Mukhtar Idris Gusau who only returned to the country on Friday after the stunning Supreme Court judgment. Gusau who was Yari’s preferred successor had been set to be sworn in on Wednesday as governor.

“I want to use this moment to tender my unreserved apology to all the members of our party over our failure to put in new leadership in the state”.

“The whole world was aware that we have tried our best and we put up a very good fight but Allah in his infinite mercy said otherwise”.

Yari was also a victim of the Supreme Court judgment as he also lost his mandate as senator-elect.

He had bulldozed his way to take the seat that had been held by Senator Sani Yerima since 2007.
