Passengers aboard an Ethiopian Airline Boeing 777-300 aircraft flying from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to Lagos Nigeria burst into worship songs on Wednesday morning when the aircraft avoided overrunning the runway of the Lagos airport due to the bad weather at the time.

Among the passengers were President Olusegun Obasanjo who was returning to the country from Addis Ababa where he attended a Stakeholders Dialogue on Continental Trade and Strengthening Implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA).

Other prominent personalities in the aircraft included the Director General of Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) Ambassador Ayoola Olukanni who was with Obasanjo at the AfCFTA dialogue. Also present were Prof Samson Tunde Adebayo, the Director of Ports Inspection, National Agency For Food And Drug Administration And Control (NAFDAC)

The aircraft reportedly carrying 293 passengers had an uneventful passage until it approached Lagos when due to bad weather the pilot missed the first touchline and rather touched down at the third touchline.

The pilot realizing that he had little distance to slowdown quickly took the aircraft back into the air and circled for sometime before coming down to land again successfully.

A technical official at the airport said that had the aircraft continued that first time that the aircraft would have overshot the runway and led to untoward circumstances for the passengers as the distance would have been too short for the aircraft to slow down.

When the aircraft eventually came down to a successful stop the passengers according to a source aboard burst into choruses and praise in appreciation to God for the deliverance.
