The Togolese cook standing trial for the murder of Opeyemi Gbademosi, the managing director of Credit Switch Technology Ltd. came out sweating as if he had just been soaked in water after the deed, a Lagos High Court conducting the trial was told on Tuesday.

The disclosure came as it emerged that the principal suspect, Sunday Anani was contemplating a plea bargain with the prosecution over the sordid act.

Nura Mamoud, a prosecution witness worked in the Parkview Ikoyi residence of the late Gbademosi as a security guard. He had worked for only three days before the incident and was held in Panti Police Station for two weeks before the police found he had no role in the incident.

Giving his testimony, Mamoud also moved those in court with the good deeds of the deceased’s wife who he said gave him her ATM card to withdraw N10,000, out of which she left him with N5,000 to buy food anytime she is not around to give him food.

Anani is alleged to have stabbed Gbademosi, 67 on October 18, 2018 and subsequently stolen some of his valuables.

Mamud told the court that he was unsuspecting when he saw the defendant come out of the house drenched. Asked why he was drenched, he said that he had just finished with washing the toilet and bathroom.

Mahmud who was led in evidence by Ms Titilayo Shitta-Bey, the Lagos State director of Public Prosecution, DPP also said that he was made by the defendant to believe that the deceased’s wife sent him. He said that he then gave him N200 to buy mineral water for him. He said he gave the money from the N5,000 that was given to him by Mrs. Gbademosi.

He, however, added that he was surprised to be later informed by the deceased’s wife that she did not send him.

It was at that point he said that Mrs. Gbademosi asked that a search be conducted for Anani prompting a visit to the boy’s quarter’s residence of the cook.

Hearing in the case continues on Friday when the submission for plea bargain is expected to be considered.
