Apparently convinced that Godwin Obaseki has determined to stay back in the All Progressives Congress, APC to battle his political godfather, Adams Oshiomhole for the second term ticket, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has adopted fresh strategies towards the 2020 governorship election.

The PDP had following perceptions of a fallout between Obaseki and Oshiomhole held back from pulling punches at Obaseki in the belief that the party could cash in on him to win back the Government House.

Sources in the All Progressives Congress, APC and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP have now ruled out the possibility of such a switch.

In that regard after more than two years of holding back the PDP has in the last few weeks started pulling punches with a series of updates focused at the perceived failures of the Obaseki administration.

Oshiomhole and Obaseki

Unlike the hard tackles it gave Oshiomhole, the PDP especially its chairman, Chief Dan Orbih had held back from attacking Obaseki in the belief that it would have been embarrassing for the PDP if the governor eventually shifted to the PDP.

“You know it was a strategic move on our part because you never could say whether he was going to come over and if he came, how would we have marketed him after exposing him,” a very prominent chieftain of the PDP based in Benin told GreenWhiteGreen.

However, with Obaseki getting traction on ground in the form of endorsements from critical stakeholders in the APC, the pressure to defect to the PDP has eviscerated.

Even more, there is a suspicion that with the savages he has recently suffered that Oshiomhole may not be in office or would have been severely weakened and not be in position to stop the governor’s second term.

With that in view, the PDP in Edo State is increasingly turning its focus on the performance of the governor.

In the last two months, the PDP has drawn attention to Obaseki’s promise of providing 200,000 jobs, the dilapidated state of the College of Agriculture, Iguoriahkhi and lately on the abandonment of waste in Benin.

PDP and APC are evenly matched In Edo State

A chieftain of the PDP welcomed the decision of the governor to fight with Oshiomhole saying that it would be a war of mutual destruction in the APC even as he affirmed that Governor Obaseki’s record on ground had not been very exciting.

“Obaseki too has not done well, there is no matching development physically on ground to justify the money he has taken as loan,” the PDP chieftain said.
