Former minister and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode and media mogul, Dele Momodu have condemned the presidency’s request on President Olusegun Obasanjo to explain his absence at the recent May 29 Inauguration and June 12 Democracy Day celebrations.

Reacting on twitter to the presidency’s assertion that Dr. Obasanjo was duly invited to the two ceremonies, Fani-Kayode said:

“The Presidency should stop its whining about Baba Obasanjo’s failure to attend the Democracy Day celebration. They are behaving like a spoilt child that was stood up on its first date.

“Why would ANY former Head of State or President attend? Apart from OBJ, @GEJonathan, Gen. Gowon, Gen. Babangida and Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar ALL boycotted the event as did virtually the entire world. Doesn’t @MBuhari get the message? No-one regards you or takes you seriously,” he added.

Momodu in his own response said:

However, reacting Momodu took to his Twitter page, stating that everyone is entitled to rights of movement and association.

He expressed surprise over Presidency statement, adding that Obasanjo has the right to be absent at the occasion.

Momodu wrote: “No rights of movement or association again?

“Obasanjo never pretended to like Buhari’s government and that is his prerogative.”

Momodu like Obasanjo were firm backers of Buhari in 2015 but both drifted away from Buhari’s amen corner in the run up to the 2019 election.
