Akwa Ibom: House Committee Chides Absentee LG Chairmen

The absence of Akwa Ibom Local Government Council Chairmen and other principal officer from office has become a source of worry to members of the state legislators.

The House Committee on Local Government & Chieftaincy Affairs Committee had on Tuesday while carrying out its oversight function observed that the council chairmen hardly come to office.

It was gathered that out of seven local government councils that the House Committee visited, that only Chairman was met on seat.

However, the House Committee Chairman and member representing Nsit Atai State constituency, Honourable Mark Esset, described the situation as unfortunate and disappointing.

Addressing workers at Ibiono Ibom local government council secretariat, Esset expressed disappointment that the environment had been overgrown by weeds and unbecoming of a place for work.

“It is unfortunate that your Council chairman is not here. We are here on a fact-finding visit that would enable us as a committee to ascertain the level of projects initiated and the challenges this Council is facing”, he noted.

At the Nsit Ubium local government Secretariat, the House of Assembly Committee was received by the Council’s Head of Service, Mr. Clifford Ubak in the absence of the Chairman.
