A group, “Concerned Deltans for Development” has expressed concern over the continued retention of appointees from the James Ibori era in the present administration of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

The group in a statement signed by its leader, Nnamdi Okieseme, a copy made available to journalists in Asaba on Thursday, alleged that recent political appointments by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa tended to sustain the dynasty of veteran political office holders who have controlled the state for long.

The group alleged that those who served  as either commissioners or Special Advisers during Chief James Ibori’s era were again reappointed by Governor Okowa after even serving in his first term.

Part of the statement reads:” we are shocked in the recent appointments made by Governor Okowa. The question is are there no other persons in the state who are qualified? It is a pity that.”

The group stated that the governor’s assurances of turning things around in the state remained far-fetched in the face of what it claimed as some projects that were not properly executed.

The group cited Governor’s Road, Upper Ibusa Road among the projects it claimed were not properly executed.

But the state Commissioner for information, Chief Patrick Ukah in a swift response described the group as faceless, without facts, stressing that Governor Okowa’s track records in the past four years speak volumes and called on Deltans to disregard the group.

Governor Okowa had during the swearing in ceremony of five Special Advisers on Tuesday in Asaba assured that he would not compromise a stronger Delta Agenda, saying that the next four years of his administration will witness tremendous blessings in the provisions of basic infrastructural developments among others.

“We must think outside the box in order to proffer creative solutions to unexpected developments as we March forward, we are resolved in our quest for diversified, inclusive and self-reliant economy that will withstand any external shocks “, Governor Okowa said.

The governor who observed that the expectations were high as his administration strives to build a Stronger Delta, asserted “this administration is always ready and willing to work Deltans at home and in diaspora and from all walks of life and we welcome advice and suggestions that will help us better the lots of our people”,
