Upon the claim that violence against women is an offence of the Beijing charter of the United Nations, the National Council for Women Society (NCWS), has resolved to drag Senator Elisha Abbo for international prosecution for the assault on a woman in a sex-toy shop.

The decision of the NCWS, FCT chapter was disclosed on Sunday as the body rejected the apology of the Adamawa State senator.

Chairperson of the FCT chapter of the NCWS, Mrs. Hadiza Umar who addressed a press conference in Abuja alongside with officials of the FCT Women Social Development Secretariat (SDS) and Gender Development Department gave the inclination at the press conference.

“I am here with my executives and members of NCWS FCT chapter for a peaceful demonstration on what an elected senator, who is supposed to serve us did to one of our women.

”We want to stop the barbaric habits on women either at home, in the markets, shops, workplace and everywhere in the country.

“We are women of women of integrity and mothers, we are not animals and we are saying no to violence against all women and the assault should stop with immediate effects,” the NCWS FCT chairperson said.

”We reject his apology and we will do everything within the ambit of law to demand justice for our fellow woman who was assaulted,” she said.

The Acting Secretary, FCT Social Development Secretariat (SDS), Mrs Safiya Umar, who observed that the senator’s action was a violation of the Beijing charter said the body wants the UN to take action on the senator.
