The Restoration Caucus in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Bayelsa State says it has commenced the search for a candidate that would represent the party in the upcoming governorship election in the state.

The caucus which is believed to be the political platform of the outgoing governor of the state, Serikae Dickson, listed three persons that had indicated interest.

The three are Senator Douye Diri, the Senator representing Bayelsa Central District, the Secretary to the State Government Barr.Kemela Okara, and the Chief of Staff to the State Government, Rt. Hon Talford Ongolo.

Mr. Feynman Wilson, the Special Adviser to Governor Seriake Dickson on Political Matters, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, during a meeting under the leadership of the State Governor.

Mr. Timi Alaibe who last week obtained the form of the PDP for the governorship was not mentioned among those under consideration giving an indication of the inclination of the camp of Dickson on his succession.

Mr. Alaibe was the subject of a harsh statement issued by another caucus in the PDP which accused him of serially betraying the party at trying times. He was accused in a statement issued by the PDP Restoration Foot Soldiers of having initially defected to the opposition once the PDP lost control at the federal level.

Mr. Wilson noted that the meeting followed the successful conclusion of the three days fasting and prayer session which was organized by the state to seek the face of God on the critical issue of  selection of the next gubernatorial candidate for the PDP in the state.

Dickson’s men are not smiling with Alaibe

He stressed that members of the Restoration teams who are interested in the governorship race will be required to present themselves to the party and the Restoration caucus for necessary engagement after procuring would the form.

“After the three days of fasting and prayers, organized by the state government to seek the face of God in the process of selecting the party’s candidate for the next gubernatorial election, the Restoration caucus met and decided that the process for the selection of Candidate has started. So far three people have indicated interest in collecting the party’s form and presented themselves to the caucus. They are the SSG, Kemela Okara, the Chief of Staff, Talford Ongolo, and Senator Douye Diri.

“This does not preclude any other member of the Restoration Team that may also wish to indicate interest from doing so. The three people mentioned above are required to go get their forms on their own, upon procurement of the forms, others who are also interested are required to present themselves to the caucus and the party for possible engagement.

“The caucus thanked members of the Restoration team for their discipline, orderliness, dedication and commitment to the party and to Restoration Team which constitute over 80 percent of the PDP in the State. It is indeed a fact that the Restoration Team is the only political structure that has the cohesion, strength and capacity to win the next governorship election in the state as it has done with previous elections.” He said.
