Reps Give Obaseki 7 Day Ultimatum To Issue Fresh Proclamation

The House of Representatives on Wednesday gave a one-week ultimatum to Governor Godwin Obaseki to issue a fresh proclamation for the inauguration of the Edo State House of Assembly failing which the National Assembly should take over the function of the state assembly.

The resolution was upon the recommendation of the ad-hoc committee which investigated the crisis that has rocked the assembly.

The House of Representatives also declared that all actions taken by the present leadership of the House of Assembly should be declared illegal.

The report also directed the police and the Department of State Services to shut down the assembly pending the fresh inauguration.

According to the report of the Rep. Abdulrazak Namdas led 13 man committee,

“All Members of the Edo State House of Assembly, both those who have been inaugurated and those who have not been inaugurated should dissolve their factions in the interest of peace and stability of the House with the view to moving the State forward.

“The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and the Director-General (DG), Department of State Service should shut down the Edo State House of Assembly and provide adequate security to allay further fears of intimidation and threat as alleged by Members-elect,” the recommendations read.
