The deputy governor of Kogi State Simon Achuba has lamented the bellicose inclination of Governor Yahaya Bello who he on Monday said sees every criticism as an opportunity to fight off imaginary enemies.

Simon Achuba while featuring on Channels TV, Sunrise Daily programme described Yahaya Bello as a dictator who does not allow criticism and sees critics as enemies.

The deputy governor said that he is a victim of Yahaya Bello’s dictatorial tendencies, while stressing that the governor is not delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Kogi State.

He argued that he tried his best to ensure that good governance is attainable in the state but the governor and his cohorts have turned him to enemy for speaking against bad governance.

It would be recalled that Achuba, had in a press conference, accused the governor of owing him backlog of salaries and attempting to assassinate him.

In swift reaction, the governor, through his chief press secretary, Onogwu Mohammed, described the allegations as bogus.

Yahaya Bello: His Deputy Says He Does Not Brook Opposition

Part of the statement reads that: “The Kogi state government is appalled that a deputy governor, who should epitomise leadership and good example in all senses, could descend so low to employ smear campaign against the person of His Excellency, Governor Yahaya Bello and we state without equivocation that Achuba has no shred of evidence for his reckless surmising which is nothing but a scripted venture in ruinous adventure.”

Speaking on Channels TV, Achuba said that, “When you assess the government of Yahaya Bello, from day one it has been fighting, fighting and fighting. Anyone that has a different opinion from him becomes an enemy. Anyone that says anything that he is not pleased with, he goes ahead to attack the person.

“In governance, you must give room for criticism whether good or bad. A good leader learns from criticism. Those who criticise you might not necessarily be your enemy. As a deputy governor, I have tried my best internally to ensure that the right things are done. For that sake, I am hated and denied my right.

“This was why in my last press interview I cried out to the world and to the law enforcement agents to focus on Kogi State because of the level of violence being perpetrated by the sitting governor of Kogi State.

“The communication broke down at a point where it became very glaring that he was not towing the path of good governance. The state of affairs is not very smooth; it is rough because of the disposition of the governor of Kogi State.

“Everyone elected to the position of governor and the deputy governor is expected to deliver on promises. You are expected to look at the wellbeing of the people and effect changes. These changes are not forthcoming in Kogi State.”
