Don’t Stir Ethnic Tension In Delta Through Keyamo, Omo-Agege Appointments, APC Warns PDP
By Ayodele Oluwafemi
The Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC has warned the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the state against creating ethnic tension in the state through setting other ethnic groups against the Urhobo.
The party particularly faulted the claim that the appointment of Festus Keyamo as minister from the state and Senator Ovie Omo-Agege as deputy Senate President had put the Urhobo over and above other ethnic groups in the state.
The APC’s assertion through its director of communications, Nick Ovuaokporie was in reaction to claims by PDP operatives that the two appointments had made the APC to be an Urhobo party in Delta State.
The party while cautioning the PDP and their collaborators behind the publication, reminded them not to forget history so soon stating clearly that, while Dr. Emmanuel Ewetan Uduaghan from Delta South Senatorial district was Governor, Elder Godsday Orubebe an Ijaw from Delta South and from same senatorial district as the governor, was the Minister of Niger-Delta Affairs while Engr. Touyo Omatsuli also an Itsekiri from Delta South, was Executive Director, Projects of the NDDC and Comrade Ovuzorie Macaulay, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
“The party seriously frowned at the deceit behind the said publication which is meant to pitch other ethnic groups in Delta State against the Urhobo and cautioned further against regionalizing the APC in Delta State as an Urhobo party which negates the spirit of harmonious co-existence that is insensitive to the cosmopolitan nature of Delta State.
“The party views the statement as the handiwork of individuals driven by inordinate ambitions whose interest is to create disharmony among party leaders and ethnic groups and thus irresponsible.
“The party advises mischief makers not to create disaffection amongst its ranks over issues that are inconsequential to the development of the State while at the same time, assuring of an equitable spread of political appointments to accommodate all the ethnic groups in Delta State.”
