I Did Not Go With N19 Billion Bauchi Money – Former Gov Abubakar

The immediate past governor of Bauchi State, Mohammed Abubakar has refuted claims in the media space that he withdrew N19.8 billion from government accounts hours before he left office on May 29, 2019.

Asserting the story as a concoction, the former governor in a statement through his spokesman described the story as illogical given that the account had been frozen and that the amount the said account was only N11.6 billion.

A statement issued by Ali M. Ali on the issue said:

“My attention has been drawn to a story linked to the EFCC and from the Court to the effect that former governor of Bauchi State, MA Abubakar withdrew a staggering sum of N19.8bn  ‘hours’ before handover .

“Expectedly a “promiscuous, totally ungovernable and irresponsible social media feasted on this ‘revelation’. With a niche in “extreme invention and distortion of facts”, none sought to balance the charge by asking us except the BBC.

“Almost immediately, a coterie of the undiscerning and the deeply political commentators began popularizing a fictive story presented as “gospel” truth.

“Let’s scrutinize the submission. How could he have withdrawn from an account that was frozen? Two, how did he withdraw N19.8bn from an account that domiciled N11.6bn ?

“As government in waiting, the current government in Bauchi State wrote to the EFCC asking it to freeze the account in question sometime in May which the anti graft body effected pronto without delay on the eve of May 29.

“A letter to that effect signed by the spokesman of the current governor is in the public space.

“How and when did Abubakar cart away that humungous amount inflated by several billions?

“At what point a frozen account of N11.6bn  being refunds of infrastructure provided on behalf of the federal government in the state rose to N19.8bn?

“Thankfully the matter is in court. This disgusting forgery is what it is -obnoxious and reprehensible.”
