Two suspected internet fraudsters, who cloned fake Facebook and Instagram accounts in the name of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and First Lady, Aisha Buhari have been apprehended by Edo State Command of Department of State Services (DSS). 

The suspects identified as Asuelimen Amos Ehis, 30, a student of Department of Business Administration, Ambrose Alli University and Ogashi Kelvis Godwin, 18, were caught after defrauding unsuspecting members of the public of undisclosed sums of money using the pseudo Facebook and Instagram accounts respectively.

Addressing newsmen in Benin city on Wednesday, the State Director of Security, Brown Ekwoaba disclosed that the suspected internet fraudsters were apprehended following two tactical operations engaged by the command. 

“The first of the co-ordinated tactical operations was carried out on 25 July, 2019, about 0057 hours, during which one Amos Ehis ASUELIMEN (30), a student of the Department of Business Administration (Matric No. FMS/BUS/10/o1358) at Ambrose Alli University (AAU) was arrested at Ubiaja town, Esan South-East Local Government Area, in connection with a fictitious Facebook account that he created.

“Relatedly, on 26” July, 2019, about 0312 hours, one Kelvin Godwin OGASHI (18) was arrested at old Agbor Road, Ikpoba-Okha LGA of Edo State, in connection with impersonation of the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Aisha Muhammadu BUHARI. Following his arrest, suspect confessed that he created an Instagram account with the name and picture of the wife of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Aisha Muhammadu BUHARI, for the purpose of swindling unsuspecting members of the public.

“He further confessed to have created the account in may, 2019, with a message that the First Lady was empowering Nigerian youths with cash to start up ther businesses and that interes ted persons were required to register with money. His accomplices, (names withheld), are currently at large,” he said.

He also assured citizens of the agency’s commitment to ensure security of life and property, while urging youths to engage themselves with decent productive venture or risk being ‘guest’ of law enforcement agencies.
