Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State has warned that the patience of the people with criminal Fulani herdsmen was not infinite as he warned them that the state was not an animal kingdom where they could operate how they so desired.

He spoke at the weekend in Ikot Obio Nso in Mkpat Enin local government area of the state as he commiserated with relations of the late Frances Etor who was reportedly shot dead in his farm after an altercation with some herdsmen.

“Although we are peaceful and civilized in Akwa Ibom state,  the elasticity of our patience is not infinite,” Mr. Emmanuel who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem said.

“As it is said in science when the limit of elasticity is exhausted there must be rupture. Cattle rearing is a noble trade, so is farming. Someone must not use his trade to infringe on another man’s trade more so in his own land.

“We are not in animal kingdom where survival of the fittest is the order; we are in a society governed by the rule of law. The rights of our people must be respected.”

While calling on the youths to remain peaceful and not to take the law in to their hands, he, however, called on the security agents to fish out the culprits.

“I am using this medium to call on the police, SSS and other security partners to ensure that those that perpetrated this dastardly act are apprehended and justice is served publicly. This is the only way the deceased family will have succour,” the governor submitted.

Chairman of Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, Hon. Ekanem Brown on his part thanked the governor for his immediate response to the development saying it helped to calm the frayed nerves of the people.:

“Dear Governor, your personal visit through the SSG speak volumes of your love for Mkpat Enin people and the fact that we took the right decision by voting you for second tenure.”
