Non-teaching staff of Nigeria’s publicly owned universities at the weekend vowed that the five day warning strike beginning on Monday would be total as they called on faithful unionists to fish out internal saboteurs among them.

The non-teaching staff comprising of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU and Non Academic Staff Union of Universities and Associated Institutions, NASU operating under the aegis of the Joint Action Committee, JAC had resolved to proceed on the five-day warning strike in the face of what they claim was the Federal Government’s unwillingness to meet demands earlier pushed by them.

The JAC communique articulated in a “Directive on five day national strike” was signed on behalf of the JAC by its chairman Comrade Samson Ugwoke who is also SSANU president and by the NASU general secretary, Comrade Peter Adeyemi.

Vowing to ensure success of the five-day warning strike to the letter, the communique read:

“Following the expiration of the 14-day ultimatum given to the government and its failure to show firm commitment towards resolving the following issues.

“Payment of Earned Allowances, University Staff Schools matter, (and) Renegotiation of 2009 Agreements, you are hereby directed to embark on a five day strike effective from Monday,19th to Friday, 23rd August 2019.

“Be informed that the strike is total and comprehensive for the five days. No form of concession or internal arrangement should be made with managements while all members must be directed to stay away from their duty posts.

“Kindly recall the decision of the National Executive Council of the two Unions to the effect that branches that default in compliance should be sanctioned.

“The national leadership shall not hesitate in this regard. You are hereby directed to fully mobilize your members and ensure full compliance.”
