A reception held in honour of the reappointment of Alhaji Lai Mohammed as a minister has ironically deepened the turf war between him and Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazak for the control of the Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Following the reception, a group of partisans aligned to the governor has demanded the resignation of the state chairman of the party, Hon. Bashir Oni.

The chairman who is an ally of Lai Mohammed was alleged to have recognized the minister as the leader of the party during his remarks at the reception.

Even before then the camps of the minister and of the governor had been shadowboxing over control of the state structure which was planted by Mohammed.

Orisun Igbomina, a socio-political group promoting the unity and progress of Igbomina people of Kwara State based its demand for the resignation of Oni also on the fact that he and the deputy governor come from the same local government.

The group said that for equity that the position of chairman should go to another local government area in the South.

Alleging arrogance on the part of the chairman, the group in a statement issued by the president-general, Chief Gbenga Awoyale at the weekend alleged that besides previous acts of arrogance and sabotage directed towards the governor, that the latest indiscretion of referring to Lai Mohammed as state leader was indecorous.

“the Chairman on the 21st August 2019 at a reception in honour of the returned Information Minister Alh Lai Mohammed, where the Governor was seated, did not acknowledge or recognize the Governor during his remark and deliberately referred to the Minister as the Leader of the Party, knowing that the Governor is the leader of the party in the state.

“This is the height of insubordination which is condemnable,” the group deposed as it observed that the governor’s refusal to incline himself towards the chairman may have prompted Oni’s actions of diffidence.

“This display of arrogance was largely due to the fact that he was not elected but imposed.”

Chief Awoyale also stated that since there is a democratically elected government in place and the Deputy Governor comes from the same local government with the Chairman it is politically expedient for the  Party Chairmanship position to shift to another local Government in Kwara South.

Chief Awoyale while declaring support and loyalty of the Orisun Igbomina Organisation to the Governor, commended him for taking bold steps towards delivering the state from the wilderness of poverty, ill-infrastructure,  corruption and joblessness among others as orchestrated by the last Administration.
