In the wake of the recent FBI publication that indicted eighty Nigerians for Fraud-related crimes, the Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Garba Sani has affirmed that the Federal Government is set to issue an Executive Order to address fraud and money laundering-related crimes.

Shehu, while appearing on Sunday Politics, a programme on Channels Television, described the FBI list released last week, as “an embarrassment” to the country, noting that the action of some Nigerians have caused double damage to the international image of the country.

He disclosed that Buhari would not come in the way of justice, especially when Nigerians are involved, stressing that the present administration is trying to work with all nations to fight criminality.

Answering question on the level of cooperation of the Federal Government with the American Government, Shehu noted that: “Yes, the diaspora commission is there and the Nigerian Government has taken position on this matter, it is cooperation all the way.”

The presidential aide affirmed that the actions of few Nigerians should not be used as a template to determine the actions of many Nigerians, noting that the country population is over 200 million and 80 Nigerians is less significant considering the large population.

According to him, “This is a double damage on every citizen of Nigeria. It is a big scare on all of us who go out of this country and are seen in this image that these our brothers have created.

“We will cooperate with international organizations, the government will generate and ask for new laws from the National Assembly and there will be new executive orders that will block some of these loopholes that are being exploited by some of our fellow country men to go out there and embarrass and blacklist the country.

“The president will not stand in the way of the justice system. Every citizen that travels out of this country is expected to obey the laws of their host country. President Muhammadu Buhari is not one to excuse Nigerians from the laws of countries in which they reside.”

On the enactment of law, Shehu noted that: “Therefore you will expect a more vigorous engagement with National Assembly. The laws will have to change, this has got to be tackled and if it will take executive orders, this will be strengthened very rapidly.”
