A new ease of life in the relationship between the two ministers in the Federal Ministry of Transportation has been promised by the minister of state, transportation, Senator Gbemi Saraki.

Speaking at the formal meeting with staff and management of the ministry on Monday, Senator Saraki vowed to pursue a smooth working relationship with the minister of transportation.

“Whatever the Minister (Amaechi) had been doing I will follow suit, I will always be behind him and I will do my best to always ensure that we do what will promote staff welfare,” she said.

Her assertion was against the background of speculations of rumours of antagonism between Amaechi and the immediate past minister of state for transportation (aviation), Senator Hilda Sirika.

The reports which were the butt of social media led Sirika at one time to quip during a press conference in 2016:

â€śThe social media said that I and the Minister (Amaechi) are fighting but that is not true. The fact that there are no pictures of me at airports, offices and agencies under aviation is based on my personal choice.

“I believe that my photo will not give Nigerians anything, rather, it is my actions that will. I don’t need my pictures on walls, they were there before but I ordered that they be removed. Photo will not give us good airports and runways, rather good governance and that is my challenge and target.

Amaechi and Sirika have now been separated

It is believed that the perceived personality differences led to the removal of aviation from transportation to form a separate ministry headed by Sirika.

Sirika one of the most powerful forces in the Muhammadu Buhari cabinet is reported to be a relation of the president and was part of the backbone of the Buhari campaign.

A source was surprised at the reports of division that later emerged between Amaechi and Sirika on the ground that the two men were very close in the days leading to the 2015 General Election.

Earlier at  the reception for the two ministers, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, Sabiu Zakari said the essence of the interactive session was to have a better understanding with the Ministers.

He enjoined the staff to provide support to the Ministers to achieve the vision of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

According to him, “the purpose of this interactive session is to have a better understanding with the Ministers. It is an opportunity for us to air our views and understand what they (Ministers) want us to do in this second term of Mr. President. It is our hope that as we gave our support to the Hon. Minister of Transportation during the first tenure, we’ll give even more this second term.”
