Ogun: Abiodun Defeats Amosun’s Man Again At Tribunal
By Ayodele Oluwafemi
The Ogun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Ogun State has dismissed the petition filed by Hon Adekunle Akinlade of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), challenging the election of Gov Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The tribunal, on Saturday, noted that Akinlade and the APM could not prove that the election that brought in Abiodun was marred with irregularities.
Akinlade was the candidate backed by the immediate past governor of the state, Senator Ibikunle Amosun against Abiodun who was backed by a coalition of stakeholders including Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Aremo Segun Osoba.
In its judgement the Yusuf Halilu-led tribunal stated that the petitioners only called out 35 witnesses out of over 1000 polling units, where they alleged irregularities and non-compliance with the electoral act.
Halilu affirmed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was right to declare Abiodun, the candidate of the APC, as the winner of the election.
The lead judge further added the petitioners’ witnesses admitted they signed the copies of result sheets at their various units without any form of coercion or intimidation.
