The Lagos State House of Assembly has threatened to arrest the immediate past governor of the state, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode if he fails to honour invitations to explain his role in the extra-budgetary purchase of 820 buses.

The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa gave the warning on the floor of the House after reports that Ambode and four key officials of his administration failed to turn up to give light on the bus purchases.

Meanwhile, the House has cleared one of its members, Lanre Oshun, of impropriety after it was alleged that he Oshun collected bribes to help kill the inquiry into the bus purchases.

Ambode who left office last May was alleged to have bought the 820 buses without getting the approval of the House of Assembly.

Presenting the report of the committee constituted to probe the purchases, the chairman of the panel, Fatai Mojeed observed that four out of the 20 officials summoned by the committee did not appear.

The four were former Commissioner for Finance, Economic Planning, Justice/Attorney General, and Permanent Secretary Economic Planning. Hence, the Committee could not come up with a comprehensive report.

“Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode did not report to the House before commencing on the purchase of the buses in question, and investigation revealed that over N48 billion was committed to the project, excluding the import duty totally N20.2billion. Out of 820 buses in question, 570 are still at the Nigerian Port Authority, Lagos,” Mojeed submitted.

Following the presentation of the report Speaker Obasa ruled that “The clerk should write them including the ex-governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode and if they refused, we will do newspaper publications and after that we will issue a warrant of arrest,” Obasa maintained.
