Stella Obasanjo Hospital: Oshiomhole Says Obaseki Lied

Immediate past governor of Edo State and national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has debunked claims by Governor Godwin Obaseki that he abandoned the Stella Obasanjo Hospital daring the governor to show what he has built.

Governor Obaseki had during a visit to the Stella Obasanjo Hospital remonstrated past administrations for abandoning the hospital and going ahead to build a five-star Central Hospital nearby also in Benin.

Responding, Oshiomhole said that he did not abandon the Stella Obasanjo Hospital but rather lifted the capacity and scope of the hospital after he came to power.

Speaking through his spokesman, Simon Ebegbulem on telephone, the APC national chairman also quizzed Obaseki on why he as a member of his administration did not offer suggestions on the Stella Obasanjo hospital as he quizzed his successor to show evidence of what he had done?

Responding to Governor Obaseki’s charge that his predecessors did not elevate the condition of Stella Obasanjo Hospital, Ebegbulem said:

“That is not true. Before commencing the construction of the five-star hospital, comrade upgraded Stella Obasanjo Hospital and bought equipment for the hospital.

“Before comrade came there were no equipment there. In fact, there was a day comrade visited there and discovered that they didn’t have equipment for eye treatment and most of the things that they had there were obsolete.

“So, comrade decided to purchase state of the art eye equipment and even upgraded the mortuary, in fact, comrade reconstructed that place to enable those at Central Hospital to be relocated there while the Central Hospital was being constructed.

“It is not true that comrade abandoned the hospital. Comrade decided to build and equip the five star hospital with state of the art equipment because he believes that it will help address the health needs of people of the state and indeed in the South-South.

“And the man who is talking who is talking, he was part of the administration for eight years, he was head of the economic team and part and parcel of the administration.

“So, why didn’t he raise all these issues when he was there. Which one has he built himself since he came? He has not done anything, which one has he built? He is just lying, comrade never abandoned that hospital, which one has he built himself?”
