Group Leads Protest Against Alleged Privatisation Of Edo Hospital

The Edo State civil society has flayed the alleged privatisation of Edo State Specialist Hospital by Governor Godwin Obaseki, noting that the hospital was built with taxpayer’s money.
The Coordinator-General of the group, Leftist Omobude Agho made this known during a protest over the change in the nomenclature of the state-owned hospital now called Edo specialist Hospital.
The group accused Governor Godwin Obaseki of giving out the hospital to his friend, in the disguise of privatisation, while picking holes in the method deployed to privatize the hospital.
In the words of Leftist Agho, “the governor after the privatisation of the hospital gave it to his friend from Lagos, one Dr Moye as if the hospital is his personal property. We are rejecting this new privatisation method by the present government of Edo. Edo people demand to know true ownership of the newly built Edo specialist Hospital.”
He also claimed that the governor of the state wants to make healthcare accessible to only the rich, at the expense of the poor.
According to him, “Their target at the end of the day is that the children of the poor cannot access good healthcare. The primary purpose of government is the provision of security and welfare, on this one, our governor has failed totally.
“We heard that they have also started privatising education, meaning the children of the poor will not be able to access education.
“We had meeting with the officers of state government yesterday, and they tried to use grammar to confuse us because they know we are not educated but they failed to realise that we are not stupid.”
Meanwhile, The Edo state Commissioner of police, Mr Mohammed DanMallam who was physically present at the scene of the protest appealed to the group to stop the protest, while urging the leaders of the group to convey their grievances to Governor Godwin Obaseki.
The spokesman of the governor, Mr. Crusoe Osagie did not respond to a phone call or text messages sent to him on the development.
