Five-time champions of the FIFA U-17 World Cup Tournament, Nigeria sustained her winning streak in the ongoing tournament in Brazil with a 3-2 defeat of Central American representative, Ecuador. It came through a hat-trick from Ibrahim Sa’id.

It was, however, a victory that was pulled from the jaws of defeat that could have been laid on unforced errors.

The Eaglets had opened account barely five minutes into the game through Sa’id. The joy of that goal however, did not last long as the Americans equalized not long after through an own goal arising from a confusion in the Nigerian defence.

It was a ding-dong affair unto the second half when the Ecuadorians pulled ahead courtesy of a penalty kick.

Nigeria’s Sa’id got the equalizer on the eighty-fifth minute of the game and got the third for the country in the eighty-ninth minute bringing sorrow to the hearts of the Ecuadorians.

With the two successive victories, Nigeria now sits atop the group that also has Hungary and Australia.

Nigeria had earlier defeated Hungary by 4-2 and is expected to meet Australia in her final group match. Ecuador had earlier beaten Australia by 2-1.
