A young man has trekked about 172 kilometers from Yagba East to Lokoja in Kogi State to celebrate the November 18 declaration of Governor Yahaya Bello as winner of the Kogi State governorship election.

The man Salahudeen Lateef, whose age was not immediately given was received in Lokoja by the deputy governor, Chief Edward Onoja on behalf of Governor Bello.

Lateef from Ife-Olukotun, Yagba East according to thenigerianpost.com.ng began the journey at about 8:45am on Tuesday and arrived Lokoja two days later.

A former critic of the Bello administration he said he had a change of heart after being persuaded of the good things being done by the governor.

The two day trek he said has also dismissed insinuations of insecurity in the state as according to him his journey was totally unhindered by insecurity threats.

“I decided to trek to show the world that Kogi is now secure for investors to Kogi, and to also celebrate with the governor.

“I made a vow three years ago being, a Dino Melaye supporter to embark on a trek as a way of expressing my dissatisfaction with GYB’s re-election.

“I later realised that lot of misinformation was being spread about the present administration of Governor Bello especially in the aspect of security,” he said.

According to him being a former critic, he decided to come nearer government to see what was happening.

“I had to tell myself that I needed to come close to this government and see the reality of the situations in Kogi State.”

“So, the vow I made about three years ago was an opportunity for me to test the security situation in Kogi State because there is no way someone would trek about 200Km in a state that is deficient in the area of security without being ambushed, kidnapped or perhaps, encountering any harmful thing”.

“I was expecting harmful things to befall me but glory be to God, I have tested the security situations in Kogi State and confirmed that it’s well secured for investors to come and invest.”

“I arrived Lokoja at exactly 3:45pm where I was led by the Secretary to Kogi State Government, my adopted mother, in the person of Dr. Mrs. Folashade Arike Ayoade to His Excellency, Chief Edward David Onoja for a reception.”

Onoja who received him assured him that Governor Bello has given consideration to youths and told him that more youths would be empowered by the administration in the nearest future.
