The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP is bidding to lockout the All Progressives Congress, APC from participating in elections that may be called to fill the 14 seats declared vacant in the Edo State House of Assembly.

Chairman of the Edo State chapter of the PDP, Chief Dan Orbih told GreenWhiteGreen that the APC cannot eat its cake and have it after squandering the mandate of the electorate.

Asserting that it would be a novel case that would be won by the party, Orbih said that the APC would be taking the electorate for granted if it is allowed to participate in the election.

Orbih spoke against the background of the declaration of 14 seats in the Edo State House of Assembly vacant by Speaker Frank Okiye on Wednesday.

The declaration has been met with mixed reactions. While some party elders like former political adviser to Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, Mr. Charles Idahosa have backed the move, others including Washington Osifo one of the members-elect have described it as a joke.

But responding on the development, Orbih told GreenWhiteGreen:
“We are looking at it from another perspective and we are going to bar the APC from participating in the bye-election.

“The party cannot take our people for granted after squandering the mandate to represent the various constituencies and throwing it away, they cannot come back for the same mandate. You cannot eat your cake and have it.

“Yes it is a novel case but we are briefing our lawyers and we believe we have a strong case,” Orbih said.
