The English Premier League resumes on Thursday with the 1963 Boxing Day festival of goals still evoking memories for the unprecedented harvest of goals on a single match day.

On that day Burnley thumped Manchester United 6-1, Ipswich were humiliated by Fulham as they lost 10-1 , Liverpool beat Stoke 6-1 and the likes of Tottenham and West Brom settled for a 4-4 draw.

Liverpool have had the sweetest story of the 2019/2020 season so far as the league leaders. They have just won the prestigious Fifa Club World Cup, winning the Premier League for the first time in more than a decade will bring back the glory days to Merseyside.

However, there are players that can keep football lovers entertained as they glue the television screens on Boxing Day.

Among players many will look out for are:

Jamie Vardy (Leicester City): The League’s highest goal scorer is in the form of his life at the moment. Leicester are the closest to the league leaders, Liverpool. His goalscoring contributions to the team has kept the title chase alive. Another goal today  from him won’t come as a surprise as Leicester take on Liverpool to reduce the points gap and put pressure on the league leaders.

Tammy Abraham (Chelsea): Chelsea’s lanky striker seems to have broken the jinx attached to the number 9 jersey of a Chelsea shirt. Alvaro Morata had to change the Jersey number in order to score goals for the club. He has found the back of the net eleven times. In the last match against Tottenham, he won all the aerial duels he contested for in the first half. Southampton would be hoping to contain him when they clash.

Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City): The Belgian midfielder is one of Pep Guardiola’s key players. He is on fire at the moment, as he cannot stop scoring goals and is addicted to providing assists. He is the League’s top assist provider with 10 assists and will be hoping to perform wonders again when they take on a stubborn Wolves side.

Mohammed Salah (Liverpool): After winning the Fifa Club World Cup golden ball, the Egyptian magician cannot be overlooked when they face the Foxes. All the teams in the league are wary of his goalscoring threat as he has won the golden boot for the past two seasons. His nine goals have been crucial in Liverpool’s successful campaign so far.

Sadio Mane (Liverpool): Just like Salah, he has also found the back of the net nine times. The Senegalese is the top contender to win the CAF player of the year award ahead of his Liverpool teammate after being voted by Lionel Messi during the Ballon d’or award. His energy when he is playing cannot be underestimated.
