Confusion In Ogun Over Gov Abiodun’s Anti-Osoba Stance

Mystery is growing in Ogun State over the seeming determination of Dapo Abiodun to edge out Segun Osoba and his associates from his government.

On Friday the governor inaugurated his new cabinet with associates of Osoba almost completely sidelined.

That was despite the solidarity the governor and Osoba forged against the immediate past governor of the state, Senator Ibikunle Amosun and his proxies ahead of the March governorship election.

Besides Amosun, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo who is from the state and Asiwaju Bola Tinubu were also known to have backed Abiodun in the alliance that thwarted Amosun’s bid to foist Adekunle Akinlade as his successor.

However, following the inauguration of Abiodun as governor, supporters of Osoba have been crying out and rejected the list of commissioners penned down by the governor as they alleged that they were left out.

The Osoba supporters and associates followed up their protest by boycotting the inauguration of the new executive council on Friday.

Besides Osoba and his close associates, Senator Tolu Odebiyi (Ogun East), Remmy Hassan who served as Abiodun’s campaign spokesman who was appointed as special adviser and Prof. Sidi Osho who was appointed as Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology were also absent.

A source in the state told GWG that Abiodun’s decision to sideline Osoba is steeped in mystery as no reason has emerged for the divorce between both men.

However, sources claim that a power play between the three men who helped Abiodun to power may not be impossible.

“I don’t see how Abiodun could be doing this without the support of either Osinbajo or Tinubu. One or the two of them must be backing him for him to act against Osoba with the boldness with which he has done,” the source said.

Inaugurating the cabinet on Friday, the governor told the new commissioners not to be beholden to any godfather.
