The Lagos State House of Assembly on Wednesday urged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to construct new road networks that would impact positively on the lives of the people in the state in 2020.

Mr Abiodun Tobun, Chairman, House of Assembly Committee on Works and Infrastructure, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

Tobun said the House had allocated large chuck of capital funds to the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure in the 2020 budget for construction of new roads networks in the current year.

NAN reports that N115 billion was allocated to physical infrastructure in the state 2020 budget passed by the lawmakers and signed by Sanwo-Olu on Dec. 31.

Tobun, representing Epe I Constituency, said he was not expecting anything less than quality roads construction in the current year.

The lawmaker added that the state government should also extend the road network to all the nooks and crannies of the state to make the roads motorable.

“Lagosians are also demanding for the completion of all the ongoing projects because the projects are meant to serve our people.

“The state government should be able to initiate new road networks that will impact on the lives of people in the state.

“I want to believe that with the provisions in the budget for the roads and infrastructure, we are expecting the state to fulfill the mandate given to us by the electorate,” he said.

Tobun said some road projects that could not be completed in 2020 would be completed in the following year.

The lawmaker advised that the era of funds being tied down to the contractors would be a thing of past.

He said there was a resolution that the Advanced Payment Guarantee (APG) must subsist for any money to be paid to contractors.

The APG is a guarantee that advance payments will be returned if the party that received such payments does not perform its part of the contract.

Tobun said that the site of the project must be cleared for any encumbrance and right of way must be delivered before funds could be released.

According to him, Lagosians are expecting value for money on roads construction in 2020.
