Dr. Olusegun Obasanjo has finally broken his public silence on the crash of the marriage of his son, Olujuwon to  Tope Adebutu who is the daughter of his close friend and confidant, Chief Kessington Adebutu.

Speaking in public for the first time on the issue, President Obasanjo revealed that the soured marriage did not in any way sour his own relationship with his friend, Adebutu insisting that their children entered into the marriage on their own.

The marriage contracted in 2017 was seriously opposed by Obasanjo’s estranged wife and mother of Olujuwon, Ms. Taiwo Martins.

The marriage which was crystallized with a high society wedding in 2017 collapsed within one year and by middle 2018, husband and wife were headed for the divorce courts.

President Obasanjo opened up on Saturday at a ceremony to confer the status of First Honourary Member on Adebutu by the Abeokuta Sports Club.

Obasanjo who directed the ceremony spoke while giving his tribute to Adebutu, saying:

“The honoree of today has rendered marvelous services to Egbaland. The Park Inn, which is the old Gateway Hotel, would have still remained in derelict if not for the services, commitment of the honoree.

“One thing you never said about him and I wonder why the citation left that out, you know not too long ago my son and your daughter on their own decided to get married but what happened to their marriage is between them, not between us.”
