The Buhari Media Organisation (BMO) has hailed the fulfillment of the promise by the President Muhammadu Buhari administration on the increment in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members’ monthly allowance.

NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim confirmed approval of the increase during a working visit to the NYSC secretariat in Bauchi,  that serving corpers will now receive a monthly allowance of N33,000, in line with the increase in the new national minimum wage.

Commending the Federal Government’s efforts to deliver on its promises, BMO in a statement signed by its Chairman Niyi Akinsiju and Secretary Cassidy Madueke, expressed delight, describing it a welcome development.

“President Muhammadu Buhari signed the new minimum wage bill into law in April 2019, and the increase to the Corps members allowance is in line with the increase in the new minimum wage by the President.”

“It is a reflection of the minimum wage projection and the fact that it was considered in the 2020 budget shows a proactive minded government”

“The new approved payment for NYSC members is 10 percent above the new minimum wage of N30,000 paid by federal and state governments and 60 percent above the N19,800 earned by corpers.

“It is an acknowledgment of the importance of graduates and young people in the illustration of the government and is about enhancing capacity and providing a good standard of living.

“As a group, we commend the Federal Government on this initiative, we encourage the government to continue with its good work. The implementation of the pay rise in youth corpers allowance by President  Buhari will certainly boost morale, enhance commitment, and encourage hard work’, the statement added.
