The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency has disclosed that it would resume the search for a 21-year-old man, Daibo Davies who reported jumped into the Third Mainland Bridge, in Lagos.

The suspension of rescue operations by LASEMA due to exhaustion of rescue divers and the strong currents may have dimmed hopes of finding Davies alive.

GreenwhiteGreen had reported that Davies, a resident of Sosanya Street, Soluyi, in the Gbagada area of Lagos, on Saturday, ordered a Uber cab from Gbagada, and reportedly jumped into the Lagoon, having told the driver, Idowu Badmos to alight due to stomach constipation.

The combined team of LASEMA, local drivers, Marine Police had yet to find the suicidal man, while the cab driver had taken to the Adekunle Police Station along with his car.

The Head of Public Affairs, LASEMA, Nosa Okunbor, in a statement on Sunday, disclosed that the rescue team had suspended due to the undercurrents of the water and exhaustion, adding that the agency would resume the search on Tuesday.

Okunbor noted that the hope of rescuing Davies alive had dimmed.

In his words, “Reasons attributed for the suspension of the search include the very strong and fast undercurrents of the lagoon’s water, which according to divers, have not assisted in the rescue efforts, and exhaustion due to the long, strenuous and tiring search for the victim.”
