Rumours Of Bank Robberies Ground Akure
By Ayodele Oluwafemi
Commercial activities were, on Wednesday, grounded in some part of Akure, the Ondo State Capital, following rumours that gunmen were robbing some banks in the town.
The rumour, which was shared on social media platform, had it that robbers stormed the Oke-Aro branch of a leading first generation bank, which was discovered to be false.
The development led to the shutdown of some business outlets in Akure, as bank halls were closed down to avoid the robbers.
Debunking the rumour, the Ondo State Police Command asked residents of the state to dismiss the rumour and move on with their business activities.
The police spokesperson in the state, CSP Femi Joseph, in a statement, said, “the Ondo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public especially the Citizens of the State to disregard any rumour of Bank Robbery or attempted Bank Robbery in Akure or anywhere in the state.
“We make bold to say that the story is not only false and mischievous but also wicked and lacks substance as no such incident happened anywhere in the State.
“We urge the good people of the state to disregard this rumour, as it is nothing but a blatant lie from the pit of hell.
“Our men are everywhere across the State to deal with any manner of crime or criminality.”
