Villagers in Akata Village in Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina State have started paying a levy slapped on them by bandits in the area for the purpose of avoiding an attack.
The bandits it was gathered has imposed a N1,500 levy on each community member who are at the mercy of the bandits.
Daily Trust reports that the tax on the villagers came after the community members handed over one of the bandits to the soldiers following an attack about two weeks ago.
The bandits who were vexed with the action were said to have sworn to lacerate the village and imposed a fine of N1 million on the community.
The fine was, however, negotiated down to N700,000 which the community members have started paying.
Katsina Police spokesman, SP Gambo Isah told Daily Trust when contacted,
“We are investigating. We are not leaving any stone unturned. No amount of information is small.”
The development follows the recent attack on Tsauwa and Dankar villages in which 30 persons were killed.
