The comments credited to the Chief Of Army Staff of Nigeria, Lieutenant General, Tukur Yusuf Buratai that Nigeria youths will be drafted into the army to fight insurgency have sparked outrage on the microblogging platform, Twitter.

Buratai, who was represented by Brig. Gen. Emmanuel Akpan, the Director Directorate of Army Recruitment, Resettlement and Reserve, DARRR,  during a courtesy visit to the Ebonyi State Government House, was quoted to have disclosed that young men and women would be drafted to the Army.

An online platform, Daily Post quoted Akpan saying “This special training will now be integrated in every training in the Nigerian Army. So, this means that anybody that is recruited in the Nigerian Army with effect from now, will have to go through that process. It is a tough training, it requires a lot of physical and mental fitness. So, we need young men and women who are physically fit.”

The report has sparked fresh controversy on the micro blogging platform, Twitter, on the plans of Nigeria leaders for the youth.

Twitter users lambasted the Army Chief for initiating such plan for youth, despite other lucrative services.

Those who have reacted to the report argued that the Federal Government do not open job applications to fill positions in the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and other juicy government agencies, but prefer to draft youths to the Military.
