The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs,  Senator Godswill Akpabio has formally responded to the news report that he had been denied a visa by the United States Mission in Nigeria.

The news report which gained traction in some sections of the online community follows the reported move by the United States Government to sanction erring Nigerian officials indicted for electoral fraud and  corruption.

GreenWhiteGreen had in the past reported the move by the United States government. Senator Akpabio was at the time of the initial action in mid 2019 not among the ten Nigerian politically exposed persons on the US watchlist.

Responding to the report, Akpabio through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Anietie Ekong said:

“We wish to alert the public that there is no iota of truth in the fabricated story.

“The truth is that on February 20, 2020, Senator Akpabio and the wife, Mrs Ekaette Unoma Godswill Akpabio appeared at the United States of America Embassy in Abuja to renew their visas. Being regular visitors to the United States of America both of them were granted the visas.”
