Oshiomhole Ponders Options As Court Suspends Appeal Hearing

Published

on

Adams Oshiomhole was weighing his options on Monday after the Court of Appeal suspended further hearing on his appeal against the court judgment that suspended him as the national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

The court hearing was significant for Oshiomhole as it was scheduled for a day before the National Executive Committee, NEC meeting. A favourable hearing would have removed the legal restriction and allowed him to preside over the NEC meeting where his fate would obviously be determined at the NEC meeting on Tuesday.

Oshiomhole and his associates had arrived the court premises early on Monday only for the panel of three judges led by Justice Stephen Adah sat to hear other cases.

The panel, however, said that Oshiomhole’s appeal would be heard by another panel to be reconstituted.

However, rather than a new panel a court official subsequently informed the parties to go and that the prayer for stay of execution would be heard on another date.

Justice Danlami Senchi, of the Abuja High Court on March 4, 2020 ordered that Oshiomhole be suspended from office as national chairman upon a suit filed by Oluwale Afolabi. Afolabi’s claim was based on the suspension handed to Oshiomhole by his ward, local government and state executive levels of the party in Edo State.

Senchi said it was wrong of the APC to have kept Oshiomhole as chairman after he was suspended by the Edo state chapter of the party.

But Oshimhole approached the court of appeal seeking a stay of execution of the judgment.

The decision of the Court of Appeal has put the Oshiomhole team in a quandary as it approaches the NEC meeting of tomorrow.
