Explosives Caused Akure ‘Rapture’ Fears – Akeredolu

Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, governor of Ondo State on Saturday disclosed that the explosion that shook Akure, the state capital came from military-grade material which exploded when a convoy broke down in the state.
The explosion occurred around 1 a.m. at Eleyowo Akure, along Owo-Akure highway about 2km to the Akure Airport.
GreenwhiteGreen reported that residents of the state heard a loud bang around 1.am when many were sleeping with many fearing that it was the rapture.
Akeredolu, who visited the scene of the event on Saturday with some state officials, said he was briefed by security chiefs on the cause of the explosion.
In his words, “I have been briefed by the security chiefs that in the early hours of Saturday, March 28th, a vehicle in a convoy transporting explosives to a storage facility in a neighbouring state developed a fault while in transit along the Akure Owo Road about 2km from the Akure Airport.
He urged members of the public to steer clear of the environment to avoid another occurrence.
