Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos is dubbed “one of the best defenders in the world” on the basis of his leadership attributes, awesomeness in tackling and his penchant for scoring goals.

He is presently one of La Liga’s highest goal-scoring players from his defensive position. A defender who scores many goals is a rarity and that is why he is “cream of the crop”.

After making his professional debut for Sevilla in 2005, his career witnessed a meteoric rise as he signed for Real Madrid. The Spanish midfielder has become an indispensable player of the Galaticos outfit.

However, he has clinched several European and domestic titles, making him one of the most decorated players in world football history. He has won four Champions League trophies and four La Liga titles. In total, he has an incredible numerical value of 21 major honors.

At international level, he isn’t devoid of trophies achievements as he has won the FIFA World Cup and two European Championship trophies. The Spanish defender is also the most capped player.

Individually, he has emerged in the UEFA team of the year 8 times, FIFA pro World 11 ten times, UEFA Euro Team Of The Tournament and La Liga team of the season.

Ramos, however, has been lambasted in the past over his callous and dubious acts while playing on the pitch. In the 2018 Champions League final, he was culpable for Mohammed Salah’s broken arm. Many football fans portrayed their scorn for Ramos by storming his social media handles to rain abuses on him.

Many Real Madrid fans will never forget his heroic performance in the 2014 Champions League final when he equalized in the 93rd minute that made Real Madrid win the final against bitter rivals Atletico Madrid in extra time.

On the occasion of his 36th birthday, Sergio Ramos who was born in Camas, Spain is definitely an exceptional footballer who has many feathers in his hat and deserves acknowledgment.
