Dettol Chides Funke Akindele’s Conduct But…

Dettol Nigeria has distanced itself from the conduct of its top brand ambassador, Funke Akindele in organizing a birthday bash for her husband against social distancing campaigns that the top actress has promoted.

However, the company’s failure to decisively put a comment on its future relationship with the top actress is putting the brand on the spot among social media enthusiasts.

Dettol Nigeria in a series of tweets on Sunday night said it does not condone any breach of the COVID19 guidelines.

The tweet followed the Sunday night arrest of Ms. Akindele by the police upon the circulated videos of a birthday bash she held for her husband Abdulrasheed Bello aka JJC Skillz.

Following the arrest, Dettol Nigeria went on its twitter page to make its official reaction.

The company said:

“We have been made aware through social media that Funke Akindele recently, acting in her personal capacity, had a celebration which is against the caution to the public on social distancing during the covid-19 pandemic.

“The NCDC partnered with Dettol on a public service message to educate our communities about preventive measures against COVID-19. Funke is not a brand ambassador of the NCDC.”

“As a responsible organization and brand Dettol does not condone any breach of the guidelines on Covid-19. As an organization we are concerned at the turn of events.

“We will continue to support NCDC and the Nigerian govt to fight COVID-19.”

Dettol Nigeria’s reaction was, however, seen as tame by some twitter users which urged the brand to make a more decisive denunciation of Ms. Akindele and its future relationship with the top actress.
