Funke Akindele, Hubby Convicted, Fined

Nollywood superstar Funke Akindele and her husband, Abdulrasheed Bello, JJC Skillz have been fined N100,000 each and are to serve 14 days of community service for violating the Lagos State Regulation on Social Distancing.

The sentence was upon their guilty plea made before Magistrate Aje Afunwa on Monday following the Saturday birthday party hosted by Ms. Akindele for her husband.

The two are also to observe a period of isolation after the community service the judge ruled.

As part of the community service, they are to visit ten important places in Lagos in order to educate people on the importance of social distancing.

Besides, they are to within 24 hours provide the names and phone numbers of everyone who attended the party.

The couple was arraigned on Monday morning after the uproar that followed the viral video of the birthday party hosted by Ms. Akindele for her husband on Saturday.

Ms. Akindele, a brand ambassador for Dettol had been engaged in promoting social distancing in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

She was arrested on Sunday evening following the circulation of the video of the party. Before her arrest, she had made profuse apologies for her action.

Her husband joined her in custody on Monday morning before the two were taken to court.

Star musician, Naira Marley who was also asked to report was not arraigned as no mention was made of him.
