Questions As Govs Lift Ban On Social Gathering

Despite the increasing number of positive confirmations for COVID-19 across the country, many states have succumbed to pressure to relax the restriction against social gathering earlier imposed by a number of them.
This development has made many social commentators to wonder if the virus will also go on holiday in the name of Easter celebration and Jumat service.
In Cross Rivers, the state government has ordered partial relaxation of the lockdown directive to enable citizens celebrate the Easter Celebration.
The state has no record of COVID-19 yet
In Rivers State, the state government, in a statement by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Electronic Media, Mr. Simeon Nwakaudu, approved Jumat service on Friday and Sunday Easter celebration.
The state has two cases of COVID-19.
In Ondo State, the state government, on Wednesday, announced that Christians can attend churches to celebrate the Easter Sunday, sequel to the request of the Christian Association of Nigeria, in the state.
The state has recorded one Covid-19 case.
In Kogi State, the state government has suspended the ban on religious gatherings, with the warning that religious leaders follow preventive measures.
No case yet in the state.
In Katisina, the state government, in a statement by Mustapha Inuwa, ordered a partial relaxation of the lockdown order for the Friday Jumat Prayers and that was within hours of the revelation of the state’s index case which led to a mortality.
In Ebonyi, CAN, the State Chapter, in a state by the Chairman of CAN Covid-19 situation room, Rev. Edward Obumneme disclosed that the State Governor has approved its request to allow church services to hold for the Easter celebration, between the period of 8:00am to 12:00pm, on Sunday.
In Imo, the state government has ordered partial relaxation of the lockdown directives for residents to shop on Thursday for the Easter Celebration.
The state has no record of Covid-19 yet.
In Abia, the state government has also ordered partial relaxation of the lockdown to enable citizens engage move freely and attend religious gatherings

In Niger, the state government has also relaxed the lockdown directives to enable residents get foodstuffs.
The state has not recorded any case of Covid-19 yet.
This development has generated outrage on the social media, especially Twitter, as many are asking if the virus will also go on break during the Easter celebration
Some segment of Twitter users argued that in some of the holy cities of the world, churches and mosques were being shut to halt the spread of the pandemic.
The former Governorship candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, in Lagos State, Jimi Agbaje has also questioned the decision of the state governors who relaxed the lockdown order, noting that it is counter productive.
“The decision by some state governors to pause social distancing advisory for Easter and Jumat will be counter productive and could reverse the gains achieved thus far in stemming the tide of the pandemic,” he tweeted.
Also, hip hop star and actor, Bankole Wellington tweeted, “So for the State Governments that have suspended isolation & social distancing for Easter… do they have an agreement with the Corona virus that it will also go on Easter break as well? These our “leaders” sha. Kai.”
