Lockdown: Two Men Get 20 Strokes Of The Cane

A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Kafanchan on Wednesday sentenced two men, Ugwu Ike and Mustapha Idris, to 20 strokes of the cane each for flouting the lockdown order of the Kaduna State Government.

Magistrate Abdulaziz Ibrahim, sentenced them after they pleaded guilty to one count of Disobedience to Order duly promulgated by Public Servant, contrary to section 115 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017.

Ibrahim also ordered the convicts to pay a fine of N1,000 each.

Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Insp. Johnson Ibudu, told the court that the convicts were arrested by a team of policemen on patrol while riding their motorcycle at Ungwan Musa, in violation of the lockdown order.

When the charges were read to them, they both pleaded guilty and begged the court for leniency.

The prosecution counsel prayed the court to try them summarily in line with provisions of Section 25 (8) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law.
