A barrage of criticisms has trailed the application of social distancing rules at the burial rites of Mallam Abba Kyari, Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Kyari was buried on Saturday following his death on Friday due to Covid-19 complications, at the Gudu Cemetery, Abuja.

The pictures of the burial rites have, however, become another subject of controversy, as the social distancing rule was visibly violated during the rites.

Those who attended the burial rites were seen wearing nose masks, but were clustered together. The clustering was despite the injunctions of presidential aide, Mallam Garba Shehu that social distancing rules would be observed at the burial.

Recall that Funke Akindele and her husband were arrested and convicted for breaching the social distancing rule when they organized a house party to celebrate the birthday of Abdulrasheed Bello aka JJC Skillz, the actress husband.

Some Twitter users called for the arrest of those who attended the burial rites for breaching the social gathering rule, as meted out to Funke Akindele and her husband, while also urging the Federal Government to order them to go for compulsory two weeks isolation.

Another section of Twitter users bemoaned that rules and regulations in Nigeria are being made to guide the conduct of the poor and non-political class, while the rich and the political class can do whatever they want.

A Twitter user, however, sought to differentiate Ms Akindele’s party from the somber setting of Kyari’s party.
