COVID-19: Nigerians Bicker Over Who Failed Kano

Divergent reactions have continued to trail the hot debate on social media as to whether Nigeria as a country may have failed Kano given the steep rise in the COVID-19 cases in the state.
The hashtag #NCDCFailedKano was created by Twitter users who argued that the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) has failed Kano State by failing to build COVID-19 testing and isolation centers, while highlighting that Lagos State, which is the epicenter of the virus in Nigeria, has more COVID-19 medical facilities sponsored by NCDC.
As at Wednesday, April 22 2020, Nigeria had recorded 873 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 197 discharged, 28 deaths. Lagos topped the list with 504 cases, followed by Abuja with 119, while Kano which had its first case just a week ago was already in third position with 73 cases.
In recent days, many Nigerians have called on NCDC to investigate news reports that over 150 people died in Kano State.
Those who argued in favour of hashtag #NCDCFailedKano accused NCDC of showing bias against the Northern part of country, in the distribution of Covid-19 medical equipment.
Many other Nigerians, however, criticized those who trended the #NCDCFailedKano, saying that COVID-19 isolation and testing centers in Lagos State were the initiative and proactive measures taken by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, not NCDC.
Some section of Twitter users asked the people of Kano State to hold Governor Abdullahi Ganduje accountable for incompetence in the handling of the Coronavirus pandemic, instead of diverting the blame to the Federal Government.
