Melania Trump @ 50: Donald’s Last Bus-Stop
By Chuks Ekpeneru
For the COVID-19 pandemic that has killed tens of thousands of United States citizens, Melania Trump would have on Sunday marked her golden jubilee with an especially Donald Trump way.
The Slovenian born former fashion model by virtue of destiny is today the current First Lady of the United States (FLOTUS) as the wife of the 45th president of the United States Donald Trump.
Born Melanija Knavs in Novo Mesto on the 26th April 1970, she grew up in Sevnica, in the Yugoslav republic of Slovenia.
She worked as a fashion model and moved to New York City in 1996 to further her career
In 2001, Knavs became a permanent resident of the United States.
Melania met her future husband Donald at a New York fashion party in 1998 when she was 28. At that time, Mr. Trump was in his second marriage with Marla Marples.
Melania originally refused his entreaties but she later fell to his persistence and the couple established a relationship and were engaged in 2004.
The following year they married at a lavish Palm Beach, Florida, ceremony, with celebrity attendees including Shaquille O’Neal, Barbara Walters, Kelly Ripa, Matt Lauer, Katie Couric, former President Bill Clinton and then New York Senator Hillary Clinton.
In 2006, Mrs. Trump gave birth to Barron William Trump. Their son is husband Donald’s fifth child. That same year she also became a U.S. citizen.
Melania is the second FLOTUS (after Louisa Adams) born outside of the United States, and the first one to be a naturalized citizen and the first whose native language is not English.
Melania has unlike Donald’s first two wives steered away from controversies and has uniquely been able to hold Donald down and can arguably be said to be the marital last-bus stop for Donald Trump.
