The Ondo State Government is to deploy its Amotekun Force to check infiltrations into the state arising from people using illegal routes into the state, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has said.

He spoke against the background of claims of people using poorly policed border routes to enter the state in the period of the lockdown.

“We will deploy Amotekun and they will be there at all our borders with their own vehicles. The Amotekun will be more effective in checking these (infiltrations),” the governor said on a TVC programme on Wednesday.

According to him the clear instruction of President Muhammadu Buhari was against cross border movements, he lamented the repeated movements by uniformed men especially policemen who used the uniform to defy the inter-state lockdown.

His assertion followed reports that two policemen who tested positive for Coronavirus in Lagos infiltrated the state to seek treatment for the disease in Ondo State.

Charging the police to raise its game, the Ondo governor said:
“All police formations must not give passes to their men to leave their states, if you don’t give passes and they leave and they are caught they will be sent to their guard rooms. If they give that directive that no policeman leaves his station I believe it will go down.”
