It is undoubtedly a sign of expectations from his research into COVID-19 that Congolese president Felix Tshisekedi ordered the country’s ambassador in France to immediately prepare and dispatch a passport to Dr. Jérôme Munyangi who is based in Madagascar.

The Congolese had been so enmeshed in his research on a new anti-malarial therapy that he apparently had not had opportunity to renew his passport.

However, Madagascar’s president, Andry Rajoelina is not about to easily let go of the Congo born doctor who is the brain behind the anti-COVID-19 therapy that has also been ordered by President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria.

Munyangi was relatively unknown until now. He hails from Congo and obtained his medical degree from the University of Kinshasa. After his Masters at Paris Diderot University and another at the University of Ottawa, he was recruited in 2011 by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a researcher on neglected tropical diseases.

The doctor has provided what could be a solution to a disease that has killed about 300,000 globally.

In Africa, Covid-19 has reached about 70,000, while about 2500 deaths have been recorded.

Therefore it came as good news that someone from the continent is about bringing succour to the world.

Dr. Munyangi effort is, however, being looked at with skepticism by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The WHO has repeatedly warned that the COVID-Organics infusion has not been clinically tested.

This prompted Madagascar President Andry Rajoelina, to say that the West has a condescending attitude towards traditional African medicine.

Madagascar Herbal Anti-COVID-19 Remedy

According to him, “If it wasn’t Madagascar, and if it was a European country that had discovered this remedy, would there be so much doubt? I don’t think so,” he told French media in an interview.

In his home country, Congo, Dr. Munyangi is now a hero.

He has been invited home by his President Felix Tshisekedi, who has instructed his Ambassador in France to immediately deliver a Congolese passport to Dr. Munyangi in Madagascar and facilitate his travel to the capital Kinshasa.

Munyangi is said to have for the past six years been working on an alternative malaria treatment based on Artemisia, a tropical plant also found in East Africa and already marketed for its medicinal properties.

Meanwhile, the Madagascar government announced that the herbal concoction was successful against coronavirus in a span of seven days.

President Rajoelina is so proud of the achievement and exudes confidence in it’s efficacy.

“School children should be given this to drink… little by little throughout the day,” President Rajoelina told the diplomats and dignitaries gathered for the launch of Covid-Organics at the Malagasy Institute of Applied Research (Imra), which developed the tonic.

“Tests have been carried out. Two people have now been cured by this treatment. Schoolchildren should be given this to drink… little by little throughout the day,” the President said.

Meanwhile, Munyangi is looking forward to a heroic reception back home, “I responded favorably to his call after a discussion with the authorities in my country. I look forward to my flight.

“I have already obtained my passport in lieu of a passport because I no longer have a passport. It was our Embassy in Paris that delivered it to me. The President of the Republic wants to see me in Kinshasa as soon as possible. It could be tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.

Not taking anything to chance due to the controversies surrounding his invention, he has requested the Congolese authorities to guarantee his safety when he returned to the country.
