Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has narrated how he met his current wife, during a wedding ceremony.

Amaechi noted that he was given the wrong address by his wife when they first met, an address that led him to a toilet.

The former governor of Rivers State, in an interview, with Punch newspaper, said he was living in the same street with her wife, unknowingly, when he was then the Special Assistant to the then deputy governor of Rivers State, Peter Odili.

Punch quoted him saying, “It’s a funny story. We met at a friend’s wedding where she was the chief bridesmaid. We exchanged addresses but she gave me the wrong address. The address she gave me led me to a toilet in the university. I forgot about her until I ran into her one day in the estate where I lived in Port Harcourt.

“We actually lived on the same street but I didn’t know. By then, I was a special assistant to the governor of Rivers State. We began to interact and one thing led to another; today, we are man and wife.”

He also highlighted his fears concerning his first son joining politics, saying “I have a fear that my first son may do that because he has friends everywhere. I have been shouting at him but he doesn’t listen. He has very high leadership qualities too. Sometimes in the past, I have told him that he is deceived by the fact that he has leadership qualities.”

He noted that the Nigerian political scene is not a stage someone will like his/her children to engage in, noting that there are no rules in the Nigerian politics.

“Nigerian politics is not something one would want one’s child to go into because there are no rules. One can be easily destroyed. One must have the grace to survive. I don’t know if he has that grace (and I’m not talking about tact or sagacity) to survive because it is a man-eat-man world,” Amaechi said.

Amaechi refused to make comments when asked about his views on how Governor Nyesom Wike is handling the COVID-19 situation in Rivers State, especially with the demolition of two hotels.
